Neil has been part of the National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR) since 2014 and in that time has been a key driving force behind our data driven, strategic workforce planning initiative looking at the  future numbers and skills required of the rail industry.  

As an integral part of our Skills Intelligence team, Neil’s work is to predict the future workforce levels and skills needs of the rail industry by identifying gaps and shortages, allowing us to put strategies in place to best deal with the future demands of the sector as a whole. 

Following the work done by Neil and the team at NSAR, we have begun working towards the shift in skills that is required within rail, as a result of the developments in technology and operating environments. This will likely change the makeup of jobs and put greater urgency on recruiting and upskilling people with higher and more technologically focused skill sets.

Neil’s insight has been and continues to be invaluable and he has been a key member of the team our understanding of how the future demands of the industry will impact productivity, emerging skills needs, and efficiency.
